New Year's in Jamaica

Hi! I'm curious about New Year's traditions in Jamaica. Are there any things that are done, specific food eaten, etc. Thank you for any information!

My response:
I think New Year's in Jamaica is a lot like it is in much of the western world. Parties on New year's Eve, recovery from the parties on New Year's Day! There are fireworks in Kingston and a few other places. Many people attend church, at a special service that's called "Watchnight Service". This usually starts at around 9 or 10 o'clock on New Year's Eve, and goes on until a little past midnight. Many people think it's good luck to be in church at the very start of a new year, so some people leave their parties to go to church just before midnight, and then leave church just after midnight to return to the parties!
