Jack Mandora Tours
Exploring St. Elizabeth

What makes Jack Mandora Tours special?

Well, just about anyone can take you to a destination. But not everyone can turn the journey there into an unforgettable expeience.

That's what we do at Jack Mandora Tours. We emphasise the journey rather than the destination. In fact, you don't even need to have a destination in mind!

Every trip with us is an adventure. We dip you into the culture, the history, and the beauty of Jamaica that just overflows in our parish,
St. Elizabeth.

St. Elizabeth Jamaica

When we were children, my dad would load us into the car, and say "Let's go for a drive!". Who knew where we would end up? We got to know our country, appreciate nature, and learn about our culture and history, just by driving along the road and stopping where we felt like it.

This is what Jack Mandora tours hopes to share with you. We explore the small but important details that make Jamaica special, that others may overlook.

Here are some of the places and routes you might like to explore in
St. Elizabeth, with Jack Mandora Tours.

Way Back When - A walking tour through Black River history

Parish Church Black River Jamaica

Walk with us through Black River, the
history-filled capital of St. Elizabeth.

See how people live in the lazy bustle of this small capital. Explore the beautiful interior of St. John's Parish Church, with its marble monuments and 100 year old pipe organ. Visit Waterloo, the first place in Jamaica to be powered by electricity.

Hear the stories of this former slave trading port, which was once a mecca for trade and business in Jamaica. Some of these very personal stories have been passed down from generation to generation.

What goes up

Pedro Plains Jamaica

A trip up into the Santa Cruz Mountains on winding country roads. Breathtaking views of southern St. Elizabeth's Pedro Plains.

History is revealed in three of Jamaica's oldest and most respected schools - Hampton School, Munro College, Bethlehem Moravian College. Cut stone chapels and yellow wildflowers.

Going Green

YS Falls Jamaica

A close encounter with Jamaica’s natural blessings, as we weave our way to
YS Falls.

Learn about the trees, flowers and herbs that are our travelling companions along the road.

Swim in the waters of these spectacular falls, and explore the surrounding countryside.

If you'd like, we'll visit a working Jamaican farm to hear its story, and discover tidbits of Jamaican history.

Island Interior

Accompong Jamaica

Journey with us into the northern reaches of
St. Elizabeth as we visit Accompong, a Maroon village founded in the remote interior by escaped slaves.

This small village exudes the pride of a people whose ancestors defied the might of the British at the height of the Empire.

The route takes you into the lush Nassau Valley, home to villages like Balaclava, Maggotty, and the famous Appleton Estate.

Hiker's Dream

Maggotty Falls, Jamaica

It might not sound like it, but Maggotty is actually the name of a very scenic place. A word of caution - this hike is not for the frail. You have to be fairly fit, and not be afraid of getting a few scratches.

The trail takes us down into the Black River gorge for about an hour or so, over narrow trails, and some steep slopes.
Hold on tight. What you see along the way is gorgeous.

Market Morning

Road to Market, Jamaica

A just-after-sunrise trip into the hills of north western
St. Elizabeth, to a real country market.

This vibrant market was established just after the emancipation of slavery. Buyers and sellers from all over the island converge for the freshest and cheapest produce around.

A great chance to experience the lifestyle of rural Jamaica, in the
dew-covered countryside.

Fonthill Beach Park

Fonthill, Jamaica

Do the beach like a Jamaican. Small, sheltered, and many shades of blue, Fonthill is a favourite Jamaican public beach.

Great for a day of swimming and snorkelling. Rock to the music that plays in the background as patrons swim, sit on the sand, or enjoy a drink.

As we leave, a few minutes drive west will take us to Scott's Cove (a.k.a. Border), where you can try their famous Fish and Bammy.
